Yôga is a philosophy of Life, or a form of living if you prefer. To be Yôgí is to be Yôga, and not just a simple Yôga techniques practitioner. It’s to go further than the simple practise, and assume for ourselves the compromise of being a more conscious person each day, as it’s its goal: hyper conscious.
Yôga is directly connect with freedom. All the great Yôga masters associate Yôga aim to freedom. The forth part of the Yôga Sútra Pátañjali (the most respected Yôga book in the World nowadays) - Kaivalva Pádah (Freedom Path) speaks directly about how it happen.
So, where can we understand how freedom works here? Where our freedom is if Yôga is a philosophy of life in which its foremost aspects is discipline (practise) for personal behaviour improvement.
Freedom is itself a discipline. It is not something that others give us or not, or allow us to have or not; less than that is too far from depending of external conditions. Freedom is always related to self discipline. Those freedom that everybody seems to own it’s not more than an illusion, conducted by costumes and society. Our options can be much extended and bigger than the ones we’ve had some decades ago, but even than they are still limited if we consider the infinite limit of possibilities (if you allow yourself to that).
To have conscious about those real freedom, let us become “lords” of our destiny. A colossal power to change our life according to our wills. To be what we want to be and change what we want to change. Freedom to do or not to do, to be or not to be. Our freedom is our biggest power. (we have the power but we are not the all-powerful)
